On Thursday, April 19th, the YWCA held its Annual Volunteer Party which was the perfect occasion for the employees to thank all these dedicated women who support the organization as well as to celebrate solidarity among women!

TIMERAISER 
The YWCA has been chosen among 110 organizations to participate in the “TIMERAISER” event on Thursday April 12th!
Throughout the evening, participants and organizations met with the purpose of pairing the individual’s skills with the needs of the organizations. Then, the participants had the chance to bid volunteer hours on artworks as part of a silent auction!

Volunteer Opportunities:
- Tutors
Volunteers are needed to tutor women in literacy learning which includes reading, writing and conversation, in French or in English. Tutoring sessions will take place once a week, for approximately 2 hours. Volunteers will plan tutoring sessions and offer educational support according to the literacy needs of each participant. In addition, volunteer tutors will attend a compulsory 15 hour training course, spread over 2 days. A minimum commitment of one year is required.
- Peer Helpers
The YWCA is looking for women to act as volunteer peer helpers for women in need of extra support as they return to the workforce. The candidates will undergo a free 15 hour training course and can then be paired with a participant who they will meet once a week, at a time and place convenient to both parties. The nature of the support will be determined by the individual needs of each participant and could consist of either linguistic or moral support, active listening or help integrating into society. A minimum commitment of 6 months is required.
- Lawyers
Men and Women Volunteer lawyers are needed to offer legal information to Montreal residents. You must be a member in good standing of the Quebec Bar Association. Law students are not eligible.
- Translators
Volunteers are needed to translate texts from English to French or from French to English. A degree in translation or relevant experience is required (use of automatic translation software is not sufficient).
- Office-Secretarial work
Volunteers are needed for secretarial work, example: data entry, Internet research, answering phone calls or emails, text revision or correction, formatting text, etc. Candidates must be familiar with Word and Excel and have a good knowledge of French or English (bilingual a plus).
