“I support YWCA programs with monthly donations on my credit card. Dividing my donation over 12 months allows me to increase my contribution without feeling the impact on my budget. It’s easy and practical!”

Donation of Securities
Since 2006, donating publicly traded shares or securities directly to the YWCA Montreal has become more advantageous than selling them first and giving the proceeds as a donation. Now, donors are exempted from federal and provincial taxes on capital gains for stock market shares when they are donated to charitable organizations.
Would you like to make a donation of securities to the YWCA? Nothing could be simpler. You or your broker can just fill out the appropriate form and send it to the Women’s Y Foundation. A tax receipt will be issued for the value of the securities at the close of the stock exchange, the day of the transaction.
Here is an example based on a donation of shares bought for $5,000, with a current value of $8,000, which is a capital gain of $3,000.
| Donate securities | Sell securities and donate proceeds |
|
|---|---|---|
| Value of donation to the YWCA | $8,000 |

“The YWCA has been a cause close to my heart for a long time and I wanted to make a significant contribution. Donating shares received as compensation for serving as a corporate director is an easy way to combine generosity and tax savings.”

Vice-President

Planned gifts
Planned gifts allow donors to make a commitment to an organization through a legacy donation. The principal instruments of planned giving are testamentary bequests and life insurance policies. The tax advantages of planned giving are many.
- A testamentary bequest which names the Foundation as beneficiary, leaving a set amount or the balance of your assets: income tax credit for your estate that can be worth as much as 100% of your net income the year of your death.
- New life insurance policy where the Women’s Y Foundation is the owner and irrevocable beneficiary: tax credit for all paid premiums.
- Life insurance policy assigned to the Women’s Y Foundation as owner and irrevocable beneficiary: tax credit for the value of the policy.
- Life insurance policy where the Foundation is the beneficiary: donor’s estate receives a tax credit on succession not subject to probate fees.
Other options are available. We invited you to consult a tax specialist who can help you choose the most beneficial option.

“Because I feel strongly about supporting a credible organization dedicated to encouraging the financial autonomy of women of all origins, I decided to do my part with annual donations and a bequest in my will to the Women’s Y Foundation”.

Director of Communications

In kind donations
The YWCA is happy to accept the donation of certain goods and services which are necessary to the development and maintenance of its programs. After evaluating our needs and the value of your donation, the Foundation will issue a tax receipt for the following types of contributions: computers, telephone systems, material for our activities, etc.
Corporate Matching Donations
It is possible to multiply your generosity to the Women’s Y Foundation! Many companies will make a donation to a charitable organization that their employees support. Find out from your Human Resources Department or let us know what company you work for when you make your donation. The Foundation will check your company’s policy in order to maximize the impact of your contribution.
Company Sponsored Volunteering
Does your company have an employee volunteer program? Here is another way to support our participants!
With 16,000 girls and women participating in our programs each year, and with a hostel, hotel and building to maintain, there is a lot of work to be done throughout the year. Volunteer support is essential for the YWCA to accomplish its mission.
The YWCA is well-prepared to welcome groups of volunteers. Contact the Volunteer Centre today to tell us about your project. We welcome your participation!
