Going to a job fair can seem intimidating at first thought. Yet it’s a golden opportunity for job seekers to make relevant contact with potential employers. The key to success is to be prepared!
Here are 5 easy steps to help you prepare successfully.
1. Find out about the job fair program and the different companies that will be attending.
When it comes to participating in a job fair, preparation is the key to success. If you know what field you’re interested in, find out which companies and employers will be present so you can prepare accordingly. Of course, you can also go and see what opportunities are available to you!
2. Prepare your CV and bring several copies with you
Do you know how to write a good CV? Take a look at our article on 5 tips for improving your CV to make sure yours is ready to hand over to a future employer. It’s better to have more copies than few.
3. Dress to make a good impression
Wear clothes that you feel comfortable in and that reflect your personality. On the other hand, neutral tones such as black, gray and white are preferable. Your outfit should be professional and neat. Need professional clothing? Visit Fringues, our thrift store: you’ll find quality professional clothing at low prices!
4. Take business cards from people you meet at the show
It’s important to take business cards from the employers you meet at the job fair. This way, you’ll demonstrate your seriousness and your desire to be recontacted. You can even take notes so you don’t forget what you discussed with the employer!
5. Follow up with the people you met
By contacting the employer again, you’re demonstrating your professionalism and motivation. Don’t hesitate to thank them for their time during your meeting at the job fair.
