YWCA Montreal is proud to announce its participation in the World Social Forum 2016 (WSF) that will take place in Montreal from August 9th to 14th, the largest gathering of civil society to find solutions to the problems of our time. Under this major event, the Youth Services of the organization are offering two discussion workshops and a roundtable on hot topics related to youth. Here they are:
- Preventing bullying and cyberbullying: best practices, Wednesday August 10th from 9:00 to 11:30 AM: The YWCA Montreal will present tools and effective techniques implemented in the framework of numerous projects, based on field experience and research evidence, proving that bullying diminishes self-esteem and that young people with low esteem can also be bullies.
- Young Voices in Action: Transfer initiatives Workshop, Strong girls, Strong world project, Wednesday August 10th from 1:00 to 3:30 PM: Meet the young women, aged 16 t
o 19 years old, who participate in “Strong girls, Strong world”, a national project, financed by Plan Canada, which allies participants and provides them with the resources necessary to become agents of change within their communities.
- Together against youth sexual exploitation, Thursday August 11th from 9:00 to 11:30 AM: Because the key to success in fighting against sexual exploitation is sharing knowledge and practices, this roundtable will reunite partners of the YWCA Montreal who work to prevent this phenomenon from taking place in schools and in teenagers’ lives.
The registration to attend all of the Forum’s activities is available at a low cost of 40$. For further information on YWCA Montreal’s workshops as well as access to the WSF’s website, follow this link.
WSF 2016 will make history by being the first of its kind to be held in a country of the so-called ‘’North’’. Given the global crisis that is affecting all of humanity, it is crucial to go beyond certain divisions that still persist today and to invite participants and stakeholders from all continents to work together.
