Youth Services

Programs and tools for girls and young women

Beginning in 2000, Youth Services has developed programs and tools addressed to girls and young women to:

  • Promote their well-being
  • Develop their leadership capacity and enable them to make enlightened choices when it comes to their expectations and needs
  • Prevent different forms of violence to which they may be subjected as witnesses or victims
  • Reduce social inequalities to which they are or could be subjected

Since 2013, we have involved boys in some of our projects in an effort to rally them to the cause of violence prevention.

Our approach

Our working approach is based on action research, conducted in three areas:

Research

To institute social change through continuing knowledge development on selected topics with a view to implementing best practices

This work is carried out at two levels:

  • authoring literature reviews
  • conducting discussion groups and interviews with individuals directly concerned by the research topic

Creation of tools

The Service develops various tools, in particular information guides, facilitation guides, leaflets, games, films, and videos

These tools are addressed to:

  • practitioners who work with youth
  • parents
  • youth
  • general public

Deployment of tools

The Youth Service’s tools are deployed through:

  • training sessions with practitioners
  • facilitation of one-time awareness workshops
  • facilitation of youth programs and workshop series
“The 10 weeks were very interesting and useful. I got to know myself better and learned a few lessons about life. I have fi nished the program and I’m now more realistic, surer of myself, and better prepared to integrate the job market and society in general. After 10 weeks, I’ve learned that if you’re asked to participate, say yes. It’s a good idea, because it can open the door to new possibilities.”“It was a great training session. She helped me learn more about non-traditional jobs and discover all kinds of interesting occupations. She also made me aware of the fact that there are hardly any women in some really great occupations.”
